Internship Description

All students who attend Animas High School as a junior must do a LINK internship. What this internship is is an opportunity to see an occupation you might be interested in pursuing in the future and getting a chance to experience it. For me, I wanted to do an internship in digital film or photography. The minimum hours required to complete the internship is 90, but you can always do more.

Preparation and Anticipation

Right now I am contacting my potential internship mentors and creating dates to meet up in person to talk. I have one appointment with a possible internship already being lined out. I have yet to meet with them, but that is happening soon. Currently, I have time to meet with Matt Payne and Kara Cavalca.

Mid-Internship Checkin

I am in the middle of my internship right now, and it is going very well. I am learning a lot and have some photos to show for it. I don't expect to finish my hours within the time I have between now and the end of the school year, so I will have to finish my hours during the summer. This might not be a bad thing because the COVID-19 lockdown might lift and give me and my mentors space to meet and possibly have me go along with them on a photo shoot. Overall, it is going great and I am excited for the rest of my internship. Here are some of my favorite photos I have taken so far.

Internship Reflection

Now that I have finished my internship and create a final product in the form of a portfolio of my work. Here is the link to that portfolio: Portfolio

During this internship, I learned a lot, including the intricacies of composition, lighting, editing, camera functionality, and a little bit about marketing and how to sell photos and videos. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be in person with either of my mentors. I really wish that I could have shadowed my mentors around weddings and various photoshoots just to see their workflow and how they handle more of the business side of photography.

Overall, I had a blast and still am using skills I learn to take photos for fun. I am super grateful to both of my mentors for their time and effort. Here are both of their websites if you want to see more of what they do:
