Justice Project

Project Overview

In the current world we stand in today, the problem of injustice is becoming ever more relevant and recognized. The topic of injustice has many forms such as economy, environment, race, gender, etc. Which produced the ideas of compassion as justice, justice as fairness, and the categorization of philosophies such as utilitarianism, libertarianism, and deontology. All of these philosophies and types of justice are why I believe the Justice project is one of the most important units in my high school career. I believe that one of the biggest injustices today is the environmental crisis. The hardest part of our current situation with climate change is the large number of different beliefs surrounding the environment. Such as The Land Ethic, anthropocentrism, environmental racism, preservation vs. conservation, etc.

During this unit, we looked at a couple of case studies for different injustices. True Justice was a film addressing the racism experienced in the courtroom. We also had a summit within our class about Bears Ears and whether that land should be used for oil and gas, ranching, public recreation, or a combination.

Throughout the unit, we created two monologues, the first was about justice as a whole and what we believe justice is to us. The second focused on environmental injustices and what our beliefs are surrounding that. For our final product of the unit, we could focus on any injustice we want. It must impact the community or the world in some way though. I partnered up with Riley and we created a website informing the general public about our current agricultural system and how it is destroying our environment. We also talk about solutions to this problem, you can find more about it and the link to it below.
